Paul Blomkamp

Blomkamp's series of oil paintings "Highveld Veldhigh" are inspired landscapes of the Magaliesberg Mountain range in South Africa, his native country. The word "veld" literally translates to rural fields or wide-open spaces, while "Highveld" refers specifically to the high plateau area of the Magaliesberg Mountain range.

Early in his career, Blomkamp created many stained glass works and his paintings retain that interest in bright, illuminated, and crisp areas of color. The brisk, glowing lines cross and criss-cross geometric shapes, tinted with a light to medium color contrast. In this specific process, Blomkamp attempts to portray the energy of rural, high land in South Africa.
